THE FAMILY TREE Please click here to view Archival Holdings at Keillor House Dorchester is diverse not only in its natural history but also in the history of its people. Settled as early as 1783, with many descendants still calling Dorchester home, its heritage has included Micmacs, Acadians, English, Scots and Irish. A great deal of this history has been fortunately preserved and catalogued at The Keillor House Museum. Many families now spread across North America can lay claim to first settling the Maritimes. Dorchester was a destination at the time of settlement with its thriving industries and farming. Research facilities for genealogical study are housed at The Keillor House. The museum affords a hands on approach with the use of original maps and books. Though small and centred mainly on local families, the research facilities offer a wealth of information about our past. Dorchester was home to a Father of Confederation, farmers, statesmen, back-room schemers, Provincial Premiers and Knights. From land barons to villains it is a fascinating chapter in the history of Canada. Descendants from across Canada and the United States have used these facilities to unravel the links of their families' pasts.
