Westmorland Historical Society - 2013 - 2014 Calendar of Events

Inner Journey -Needle & Thread for the Bed 1:00pm - 4:00pm Needle & Thread for the Bed $25.00 per person includes admission to both Museums, take-home quilt block. Reservations required. Spend your day weaving new memories from New Brunswick's 19th century past. At the Keillor House Museum start your own quilt block with instruction from resource experts, surrounded by some of the most breathtaking antique quilts ever crafted. Try the age-old practices of carding, spinning wool and throwing the weave shuttle.

Putting on the Glitz - Mother's Day Tea- Two sittings: 1:00pm - 2:00pm & 3:00pm - 4:00pm

Official Opening Ceremony Keillor House Museum 2013 season & Wall of Fame Reception Honouring Sylvia Yeoman

Come celebrate the opening of the 2013 season at the Keillor House Museum, as well as honouring Sylvia Yeoman. Sylvia is being recognized for her contributions to Dorchester with the unveiling of a plaque in her honour. 100 Year Retrospective of Fashion in SE New Brunswick 1860-1960

This exhbit showcases 100 years of fashion with pieces specially selected from the Keillor House Costume Collection. The exhibit illustrates the fashions worn by women in the area. June 30 - September 15: Exhibit and self guided tour included in museum admission. June 30 -- Curatorial Tour offered to small groups. Learn the background story and details of the exhibit with Inga Hansen the exhibit designer. Register for tour $10.00 (includes museum admission, tea/coffee).

July 1, 2013 - Canada Day at the Keillor House Museum

Join us to celebrate Canada Day and the 200th Anniversary of the Keillor House. Tour the village by horse and wagon to learn our history. Bring your family. Tap your toes to fiddle music. Enjoy old fashion children's games and activities. Enjoy an original and interactive children's play under the Big Tent. Free cake and ice cream.

Wagon tours 10:00 am to 1:00 pm and activities 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.

Heritage Fair - 11:00am - 3:00pm at the Keillor House Museum Free

Experience the traditional skills of an earlier time. Try your had at carding wool, spinning yarn, weaving, rug hooking. Talk to artisans who are basket weaving, chair caning. See demonstrations of horse shoeing, sheep shearing and baking over the hearth. Shop for special products from artisans gathered for the Sandpiper Festival.

Book Launch -- Maggie's Memories

Keillor House is partnering with Munro Heritage Centre to launch Maggie's Memories, A Covenanters Childhood in 19th Century Botsford County. This is a charming collection of stories of a girl growing up in Little Shemogue from letters found in the family home. Meet the book's creator Eldon Hay.

Fall Workshop -- Behind the Scenes of a Costume Exhibit

Learn how to dress manikins for display and to prepare costumes for archival storage to ensure the safety of the artefact from the beginning to the end of the exhibit. Inga Hansen -- exhibit curator. Registration required $25.00 for museum staff and volunteers and $30.00 for public.
